Why companies certify

Who needs ISO 50001— and when

ISO 50001 establishes an energy baseline, performance indicators and improvement targets. Certified organisations typically report 5–15% savings within the first cycle, backed by measurement rather than estimates.

Chosen by energy-intensive producers, companies under energy-audit obligations and groups reporting carbon performance.

Do we need sub-metering?+
You need measurement adequate to prove performance improvement. For many sites a few additional meters on significant energy uses are enough.
Does it replace a mandatory energy audit?+
In several jurisdictions a certified ISO 50001 system exempts the organisation from periodic energy audits — we confirm the rule for your country.
Can it be combined with ISO 14001?+
Yes, the structure is identical and most of the legal register overlaps.
